Our Story

My name is James Whitfield. I grew up in New York, and like most people, I never really thought twice about my pillow.

That changed after a business trip to a hotel in Chicago. I woke up that morning feeling genuinely rested for the first time in years. No neck pain. No groggy fog. Just... good sleep. I asked the front desk about the pillow. They smiled and said it was a custom hotel-grade pillow — not available to the public.

That bothered me.

Why should a great night's sleep be reserved for hotel stays? Why couldn't people have that same experience every single night, in their own bed, at home?

I spent the next year sourcing the same materials, working with manufacturers, testing dozens of prototypes on myself, my family, my friends. I wanted to recreate that exact feeling — the cloud-soft comfort, the perfect support, the fluffiness that's still there when you wake up.

And so, Hvnde was born.

The name comes from the Danish word for softness — because that's exactly what we stand for. We believe everyone deserves hotel-quality sleep, not just on vacation, but every single night.
